Proxima Royale is a multiplayer first-person shooter in which you battle other robots for control of a distant exoplanet. The game is billed as a sci-fi alternative to popular games in the battle royale genre, such as PUBG and Fortnite.
Last robot standing
In Proxima Royale, you play as a robot sent to Proxima Centauri b, an exoplanet four light years from Earth. Your mission: Destroy everyone you encounter in your bid to be the last robot standing on the newly terraformed world. Beyond battle, you’ll also need to scavenge loot and supplies in order to increase your chances of success. At 25 square kilometers, Proxima Royale’s map is truly massive, so you’ll have plenty to explore. And thanks to the Unreal 4 engine, the game delivers stunning graphics and visual effects. The game also supports an impressive 60 players per match, allowing for large-scale battles.
Familiar concept and execution
The game’s main weakness is that it’s a mishmash of science fiction ideas and visuals we’ve all seen before. For example, the action takes place on an the exotically named exoplanet, but the forests are so familiar looking that it might as well be set on Earth. So, if you’re looking for mind-blowing alien vistas, you may want to look elsewhere. However, if you’re a fan of the battle royale genre and science-fiction shooters, Proxima Royale might still provide enough of a new spin to keep you interested.
